From LinuxJournal.com…

Using Ubuntu as a thin client | Linux Journal: “Over the last few years there have been quite a few articles discussing the uses and advancements of the rdesktop application for Linux users. Rdesktop is an application designed to allow Linux users to access the remote desktop feature of Windows based machines, specifically servers. When my company made the decision to implement a terminal server to ease the network effects of a critical application, I began investigating other practical applications for it’s use in a mixed Windows/Linux environment. I set out to determine if a Linux based thin client would be practical. As it turns out, not only was it practical, it was also exceedingly easy.”

Warner's DVD2Blu trade-up program gets bigger, cheaper (maybe) — Engadget: “Warner Bros. is making things a little less needful for new Blu-ray buyers with extensive DVD libraries in need of upgrading, slashing the lowest prices on its DVD2Blu upgrade program to $4.95 ( the original DVD copy) and adding more movies to the list of eligibles for a total of 87. Of course there’s still a catch, as the minimum order needed to score free shipping ($4.95 per order) has risen $10 to $35. Of course, if you’ve been looking for an opportunity to catch 2001: A Space Odyssey and Gran Torino and Ocean’s Eleven in all their 1080p glory then check the price list after the break and do the math — this offer might be for you.”

From TechRepublic.com…

Managing MySQL with MySQL Workbench | Linux and Open Source | TechRepublic.com: “MySQL is still the most popular open source SQL database available. And while many MySQL administrators (myself included) are strict adherents of using the mysql command-line client, those who prefer GUI tools have several choices available. One popular choice is phpMyAdmin, a MySQL administration application written in PHP. The advantages of phpMyAdmin are that it is available on the server, can be used from anywhere with any browser, and does not require you to open up MySQL access directly to the network; using the existing web server with PHP support, you can directly manipulate MySQL via the Web.”
